How to Play
Crumble is a scored word race. Build a crossword from your colored crumbs and score as many points as you can.
The goal
Build one crossword that uses every crumb you hold, and score as many points as you can. Speed matters in most modes, too.
Crumbs
A crumb is a chunky letter piece. Every crumb has a letter and one of four colors:
- O Orange
- B Blue
- Y Yellow
- G Green
- ? Wild crumbs have a rainbow rim. Pick any letter when you place one, and tap it later to change it.
- Crumbs you haven’t placed wait in your crumb area (the tray). The rest sit face-down in the pile.
The crossword
- Words read left to right and top to bottom, just like a crossword.
- Every word must connect. Crossing words share a crumb, and that crumb counts in both words.
- Every word must be a real word, two-letter words included. Invalid words glow red, and you can’t Pull or Set while any word is invalid.
- Only your biggest connected piece scores. Crumbs left in other pieces cost −1 each.
The four moves
These are the big buttons in every game.
| Move | What it does | Points |
| Pull | Once every crumb you hold is on the board in valid, connected words, take a new crumb from the pile. In multiplayer, everyone takes one when anyone Pulls, but only the puller gets the points. | +2 each |
| Dump | Stuck with a crumb? Tap Dump, then the crumb you want to get rid of. It swaps for 2 new ones. | −4 each 3 per game |
| Crumble | Tap Crumble, then tap crumbs to send them back to your crumb area. Hold Crumble to clear the whole board at once. | Free |
| Set | Finish the game. The button lights up blue when a clean Set is ready: every crumb used and the pile empty. | Ends the round |
Handy controls
- Drag crumbs from the tray to the board, and drag them back down to take them off.
- Hold a crumb, then drag, to move its whole connected group at once.
- Shuffle and Sort by color buttons tidy up your tray.
Scoring & flushes
- Mixed word (more than one color): +1 per crumb.
- Flush: a word of 3 or more letters all in one color. Every crumb in it gets a multiplier equal to the number of letters minus 1, up to ×6.
- Two-letter words never flush.
- Wilds can fill a gap in a flush, but a wild scores 0 inside one. A wild at a crossing counts its color separately for each word, so it can help two flushes.
| Word length | Mixed | Flush multiplier | Flush score |
| 3 letters | 3 | ×2 | 6 |
| 4 letters | 4 | ×3 | 12 |
| 5 letters | 5 | ×4 | 20 |
| 6 letters | 6 | ×5 | 30 |
| 7 letters | 7 | ×6 | 42 |
| 8 letters | 8 | ×6 (cap) | 48 |
